The following preschool opens:

  • Turner Preschool

The Government Preschool Officer officially stops referring to each preschool as a “play centre’ and adopts the term “preschool” .

1964

The following preschool opens:

  • Hughes Preschool
1965

The following preschools open:

  • Curtin South Preschool
  • Hackett Preschool
  • Watson – Knox Street (later Majura) Preschool

1966
The following preschools open

  • Chiefly Preschool
  • Lyons Preschool

1967

  • Curtin North Preschool
  • Garran Preschool

1968

The following preschools open:

  • Downer (Cotton Pl) Preschool
  • Mawson Preschool


The CPS shifted out of their role of “advisor” to the Department and it was:

“… envisaged that the Society should represent preschool committees and be a focal point for communication between the committees and the department … certain matters such as staffing, programs, buildings, equipment etc. should be referred to the preschool office while matters affecting the community and committees must be referred to the Society.”
