March.
We saw the introduction of the Canberra Parents’ Bulletin Volume 1. This document was to begin a long-lasting tradition of teachers and parents building a relationship to support not only Canberra’s preschool program but also the parenting skills of each preschool-aged child. The common themes of the first volume were: Common themes of the latest offerings would be: the Canberra Mothercraft Society, Ainslie, Reid and Griffith, Men, Administrators, Ministers, The Ministry of the Interior (sometimes referred to the Ministry for the Interior), volunteering, committees, women, children, vegetable gardens, shopping, negotiation, collaboration, concern, pre-school child, Lady Gowrie, Nursery School, Kindergarten Training, Council, Miss Gladys Pendred, Play Centres, dances, and fundraising.

May 15.
At a meeting that had been postponed from the 8th (due to VE day) concern was expressed that the subscriptions received were not enough to cover the operating expenses of the Society and a proposal was put forward to double them to 2 shillings. This motions was passed at a meeting held in August 1945  (Belen-Smith, 1986).

August

August 13.
The second Annual Meeting of the Canberra Nursery Kindergarten Society. The Annual Report, penned by Helen Crisp (Honorary Secretary), chronicled the events of the previous 12 months and raised the concern that Canberra’s only Nursery School in Acton could only cater for 92 children – indicating that this was inadequate for the significantly greater number of children who would be eligible and who miss out. A lot of discussion about meetings, planning, training of volunteers, committees and the significant interest that the community held in pursuing an idea to extend the benefit of the Nursery School into every district.
